Future of Safety, Health and Well-being (SHW): From the Viewpoint of Human-Robot Interaction (HRI)

Introduction

Canon Institute for Global Studies (CIGS) organized an international seminar regarding human-robot interaction (HRI), supported by the three organizations — Global Initiative for Safety, Health and Well-being at EXPO2025 and Beyond (GISHW), Institute of Global Safety Promotion (IGSAP) and Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun.

In the summer of 2025, a series of events concerning safety, health and well-being (SHW) will be held at EXPO2025 in Osaka. EXPO2025’s theme is “Designing Future Society for Our Lives.” EXPO2025 is a historic event; for the first time in the history of EXPO, it will organize events regarding safety, health and well-being (SHW).

In the age of artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics, human beings and robots have expanded their collaborative fields. In the past, robots have been used primarily at factories and warehouses. Today, robots are ubiquitously utilized in various industries including professional services, agriculture, construction, transportation, education, medical services, nursing care businesses, security services and national security. In other words, human beings are currently working, learning, and playing in collaboration with robots.

The question is how to develop a human friendly robotized society. At the seminar, how to sophisticate the concept of safety, health and well-being (SHW) was discussed among specialists.

Prior to the seminar, in Osaka, the second executive committee meeting of Global Initiative for Safety, Health and Well-being at EXPO2025 and Beyond (GISHW) was held. At the same time, “GISHW’s Endeavors and Its Ambitions for the EXPO” was held at INTEX Osaka. At the Tokyo seminar, the GISHW members gave the audience an update on the progress of EXPO2025.
