Abstract

Since the end of the Cold War, Japan has been searching for ways to become involved in the global security arena. But why is it that Japan's engagement policy, so-called “contribution to peace”, which expanded little by little over the three decades is fading into obscurity at the time of Japan's peace accord?

This book comprehensively examines Japan's post-Cold War history of peace operations, including changes in Japan's international strategy and domestic motivations for involvement in peacekeeping, and unravels the internal logic of Japan's peace operations, which can no longer cope with the current environment for peace operations.
