Lecture content | The "deliberative wave" has been building momentum for a few decades. But what's next? In a time characterised by complexity and polarisation, one-off processes are not enough to ensure systemic and sustainable shifts to our decision-making structures. In this talk, Claudia Chwalisz, Founder and CEO of DemocracyNext - an international research & action institution working to accelerate the spread of high-quality, empowered, and permanent citizens' assemblies - will share her thoughts on what kind of systemic shifts are needed to democratic institutions. She will discuss different dimensions of scaling democratic deliberation, some of the latest trends to expand the principles behind citizens' assemblies to institutions beyond government such as universities, museums, and workplaces, as well as innovations involving technology and experimentations such as children and young people's assemblies and deliberations that try to involve or represent the natural world. |
