Services for the elderly are classified into two, namely, services at home and services at residence. The types of facilities available for the elderly are also various. Table 1 shows the names and characteristics of major facilities for the elderly. Figure 1 shows the trends in the number of people that such facilities can take in. The capacity of special nursing homes for the elderly, which is most popular, is increasing, but its shortage is becoming a political issue.
