In March 2018, the National Police Agency released statistics on child abuse. In recent years, we have often seen news about child abuse on television, but as shown in Figure 1, the number of children who died due to parental abuse is decreasing.

However, as shown in Table 1, the number of notifications of instances of suspicion of child abuse to the police has increased rapidly. This seems to be the result of public interest raised with child abuse becoming a social problem and the police calling for citizens to cooperate in early detection of and responding to child abuse.
